Choosing a location for your photos

April 4, 2018

Choosing a location is just as important as choosing what you’ll be wearing on the shoot! Here are a few things to consider when planning your family photo shoot.

Consider the weather

You really need to consider the weather when choosing a location for your shoot. For example if it’s going to be in the middle of summer you want somewhere that has plenty of shade, not only to keep cool but because full on sun will cause everyone to squint their eyes in photos or wear their sunglasses.

Consider the colours

Some people like to have lots of greenery in their images, so they choose places like Lennox Gardens or the Old Parliament House Rose Gardens. For others they prefer the natural Australian bush background so nearby reserves like Mount Taylor make for a great backdrop.

Consider the family

Most importantly is to think about your family. What’s going to be easy with kids or dogs (if you’re bringing them to the shoot). Do you want fun photos on a playground or maybe even the merry-go-round in Garema Place.

Ask your photographer

If you’re still struggling with a location – ask your photographer. They will have experience with various locations and will know what will help make photos look great!
